November 6, 2022 6:27 amEnglish national team left-back Ben Chilwell will miss the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to a hamstring injury, he confirmed on Saturday.
“Following my ACL injury I worked so hard to make sure I was ready for the World Cup. It has always been a dream of mine,” Chilwell said on Twitter.
“Unfortunately, this won’t be possible following my scan results. I’ll do all I can to get back playing for Chelsea ASAP. Thanks for the messages of support,” he added.
Chelsea confirmed that Chilwell would begin a rehabilitation program with the club’s medical department.
Chilwell scored one goal in 17 appearances for the English national team.
The 25-year-old also helped the Blues win the UEFA Champions League title, Super Cup trophy, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, he sustained the injury during Chelsea’s 2-1 Champions League victory against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday.
