Dutch football legend van der Sar out of ‘life-threatening danger’

ANKARA

Dutch football legend Edwin van der Sar, who suffered a brain hemorrhage last week, is out of “life-threatening danger,” Ajax Amsterdam announced on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old is still in the intensive care unit, but in stable condition, the Dutch club said in a statement on behalf of his wife, Annemarie. “He’s communicative. We have to wait patiently to see how his situation will develop.”

The former Manchester United goalkeeper was on holiday on a Croatian island when he was taken ill and rushed to hospital on Friday.

He was widely considered one of the world’s best goalkeepers for the majority of his career.

After retiring in 2011, Van der Sar, who had 130 caps for the Netherlands, joined the board at Ajax before becoming chief executive in 2016. He resigned from the position in May.
