Dow records best weekly performance since May

ISTANBUL

The Dow posted its best weekly performance since May, but US stocks ended Friday on a mixed note.

The blue-chip index rose 15.57 points, or 0.04%, to close at 39,150 as it posted a weekly gain of 1.45%.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, fell 8.55 points, or 0.16%, to finish the session at 5,464.62. The index climbed briefly above a record high of 5,500 points Thursday for the first time. It increased 0.6% for the week.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, lost 32.23 points, or 0.18%, to end the day at 17,689.36. While the tech-heavy index closed lower Thursday to end a seven-day winning streak, it was flat for the week.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, lost 0.6% to 13.20. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.14% to 4.258%.

The dollar index added 0.23% to 105.83, while the euro lost 0.08% to $1.0691 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in the red, with gold losing 1.6% to $2,321 per ounce and silver diving 3.9% to $29.55.

Oil prices were down around 0.8%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $85.10 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $80.59.
