Kazakh tennis third-seed Elena Rybakina, the 2022 women’s singles champion, qualified for the 2023 Wimbledon quarterfinals on Monday.
Rybakina reached the last eight in the tournament as her Brazilian opponent Beatriz Haddad Maia retired from an injury after 27 minutes during a fourth round match at the Centre Court.
Haddad Maia was 4-1 down once she had to bow out.
In the quarterfinals, Rybakina will face either Tunisian sixth-seed Ons Jabeur or world no. 9 Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic.
The women’s singles final at Wimbledon will be played on Saturday, a day before men’s final.
