Clintons privately encourage donors to continue supporting Biden’s campaign: Report

ISTANBUL

Former US President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have been privately urging donors to maintain their financial support for President Joe Biden’s campaign, CNN reported on Sunday.

This comes after Biden’s debate performance, which has caused significant turmoil within the Democratic Party.

One of the sources stated that the Clintons are choosing to be “deferential to Biden’s decision.”

The second source, who is knowledgeable about the Clintons’ perspective and has spoken with them recently, underlined that a more accurate portrayal of their position would be that they are “deferential to the process.”

According to this source, in recent private conversations, the Clintons have explicitly stated that regardless of others’ opinions or statements, President Biden remains the party’s presumptive nominee unless he chooses to withdraw from the 2024 race or delegates vote for another candidate.

This source did not provide any comment on whether the Clintons have expressed a personal opinion regarding whether they believe Biden should continue seeking a second term.

Since the CNN debate on June 27, major donors have refrained from contributing financially amid increasing apprehensions about Biden’s candidacy.

This situation raises significant concerns about the campaign’s ability to sustain its operations at full capacity if conditions remain unchanged.

“I don’t know how you campaign with a broadening electoral map without money. I don’t know what they’re doing. I don’t know,” one major Democratic donor told CNN on Friday.

“I’ve never seen this strategy where you think you can win without money,” the source added.
