Clean energy to take lead in Türkiye-Denmark trade ties: Turkish ambassador to Copenhagen

by Anadolu Agency

Trade volume between Türkiye and Denmark, which reached $2.5 billion last year, is shifting towards collaborations that prioritize renewable energy, Türkiye’s ambassador to Copenhagen said on Tuesday.

Riza Hakan Tekin told Anadolu during the WindEurope 2025 Wind Energy Annual Event that the trade relations between the two countries are currently heavily focused on raw materials and equipment such as iron, steel, and aluminum.

Tekin noted that the trade relations between Türkiye and Denmark have strong potential for further improvement.

Relations between the two countries could shift from trade to investment, he underlined.

‘There is a lot to do in Denmark and Türkiye for our companies. Investment is a long-term endeavor, but we can make trade more visible. As Türkiye’s recognition in Denmark increases, its contribution to trade will also increase,’ Tekin added.

He further explained that Danish companies doing business in Türkiye are impressed by the quality and skill of the workforce, which they view positively.

‘Honestly, Danish companies like Türkiye more compared to other countries and want to do more business here,’ he said and added that the Danish Energy Agency, along with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and some local governments in Türkiye, have made trips across the country.

This could indicate many upcoming new small and medium-sized investments, he said. ‘There is willingness, but of course, as with any investment relationship, it must be mutual.’

– Foreign investors require ‘predictable market’

Tekin also stated that investors have clear expectations from Türkiye, particularly regarding a ‘predictable market.’

He emphasized that Danish investors expect at least 20 years of predictability for any major investment, adding, ‘Foreign investors expect a more stable foreign exchange policy. They want to foresee legal regulations.’

He emphasized that Türkiye has a young and well-educated population, with the potential to make rapid progress.

‘Türkiye is a large market, and companies doing business with Türkiye earn more than those doing business in their own domestic markets. Its geographical location also provides an advantage for investors,’ Tekin explained.

‘Companies investing in Türkiye are satisfied with doing business here. We want to expand this understanding even further. We aim to create a sustainable business environment,’ he concluded.
