Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku moves to Roma on season-long loan deal

ISTANBUL

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has left Chelsea to join Italy’s Roma on a season-long loan deal until June 30, 2024.

“Welcome Romelu Lukaku. The club is delighted to confirm the signing of the world-renowned Belgian forward!” the Italian side said in a statement on Thursday.

Lukaku, a center forward, has 280 goals in 589 games. He won the Belgian championship with Anderlecht, the FA Cup and the Club World Cup with Chelsea, and also the Scudetto, Italian Cup, and Italian Super Cup with Inter Milan.

“The welcome I’ve received from this club and its fans has excited me and given me even more motivation to give my all for my new team. As an opponent, I felt the atmosphere of the Stadio Olimpico, and felt the warmth of the Romanisti,” said Lukaku.

“I recently got the opportunity to speak with the owners, and I was impressed by their ambition. Now we must work, be humble, and grow game by game.”

Tiago Pinto, Roma’s general manager, said with Lakaku’s arrival “we gain more experience, professionalism, and a drive to win.”

The 30-year-old will wear the No. 90 jersey for the Giallorossi.
