ISTANBUL
David Faulds, editor at the Celtic Star football club’s fan website, said Friday that Celtic fans are passionate about showing their unwavering support for Palestinian people.
Faulds told Anadolu that fans are sympathetic toward the Palestinian cause as a fan base more so than anywhere else in Scotland.
“Celtic do not wish to take Palestinian flags from any supporter, but the banner victory to the resistance on that date did cause a lot of annoyance and anger amongst the Celtic support,” he said.
Faulds said if a team from Palestine came to play at Celtic Park in Glasgow, it would be a wonderful occasion and that would be great publicity around the world for the people of Palestine.
“Celtic fans are on the right side of history supporting the Palestinian cause,” Faulds stressed.
A Celtic fans’ group displayed Palestinian flags at a UEFA Champions League match last week against Atletico Madrid, despite an appeal by the Scottish club.
The Israeli army has widened its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since a surprise offensive by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, on Oct. 7.
Nearly 10,800 people have been killed in the conflict, including at least 9,227 Palestinians and more than 1,538 Israelis.
