British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Saturday made a surprise visit to Kyiv to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his first visit to the embattled country since taking office last month.

“Britain knows what it means to fight for freedom. We are with you all the way,” said Sunak on Twitter from the Ukrainian capital.

On Telegram, Zelenskyy shared a video of the visit, saying: “Since the first days of the war, Ukraine and the UK have been the strongest of allies. We discussed the most important issues both for our countries and for global security.”
