Brazilian manager Scolari announces retirement

ISTANBUL

Luiz Felipe Scolari, who led Brazil to their last World Cup title in 2002, has confirmed his retirement as a club coach.

“This has been my life. I end this chapter very well. I lived everything I never expected to live in soccer. And I finish it today,” the 74-year Brazilian said on Sunday after his team Athletico Paranaense’s 3-0 win against Botafogo in the final round of the Brazilian championship. The victory secured the team sixth spot.

He also took Portugal to the final of the 2004 European Championship, and claimed Copa Libertadores trophies twice with Gremio in 1995 and Palmeiras in 1999.

Besides, Scolari coached Premier League side Chelsea from 2008-2009, among others.
