bp agrees to sell US onshore wind business to LS Power

Energy major bp announced Friday that it has agreed to sell its US onshore wind business, bp Wind Energy, to LS Power, a North American power and energy infrastructure company.

The transaction includes 10 operating wind assets with a total generating capacity of 1.3 gigawatts net, the company said in a statement.

The deal is expected to close by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.

The sale is part of bp’s ongoing $20 billion divestment program aimed at simplifying its portfolio and focusing the business.

Following the transaction, bp Wind Energy will be owned and operated by Clearlight Energy, an LS Power portfolio company, which will expand its operating fleet to approximately 4.3 gigawatts, the company added.
