Biden nominates Jack Lew as ambassador to Israel

WASHINGTON

US President Joe Biden on Tuesday nominated former US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew as ambassador to Israel, the White House said in a statement.

Lew, who also served as chief of staff during the Obama administration, needs to be confirmed by the Senate.

US-Israeli relations have been tense recently due to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government judicial overhaul, which is opposed by the Biden administration.
