BHP Xplor to recruit 2024 cohort to discover key minerals for energy transition

The Australian-British multinational mining, metals and petroleum company BHP announced on Wednesday that BHP Xplor, a six-month cohort-based accelerator program aimed at uncovering critical minerals to support the energy transition, has begun a global search for its next 2024 cohort.

BHP first unveiled BHP Xplor in August last year, having completed its first year with the graduation of the first cohort. The program is now seeking early-stage explorers with companies focused on discovering new resources for key minerals needed for the future of the planet.

The program aims to give selected companies the chance to advance their exploration plans and establish a long-term partnership with BHP.

Selected companies will get a cash payout from BHP of up to $500,000 along with access to a network of internal and external specialists to aid in directing development for the company’s technical, commercial and operational components.

‘We are energized by the success of the program’s first cycle and thrilled to start our search for the next 2024 cohort. As we have seen reflected through the first cohort, BHP Xplor is designed for people who are ready to think differently and push the boundaries of traditional exploration,’ BHP Xplor Vice President Sonia Scarselli said in a statement.

‘We are looking forward to reviewing future opportunities from around the world for new, and exciting exploration concepts needed to bring forward the critical minerals required to decarbonize,’ Scarselli added.

Applications for the program will be accepted from Aug. 23 until Oct. 11.
