German Bundesliga club Bayern Munich announced Wednesday that international players Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano have suffered injuries.
According to a statement on the club’s official website, French defender Upamecano is expected to miss several weeks with a left knee injury, while Davies’ condition is much more serious.
The Canadian international, who has a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee, is expected to be out of action for several months after undergoing surgery.
“Unfortunately, there is always a risk of players returning injured during national breaks – this time it hit us particularly hard. The absence of Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano is a heavy blow for FC Bayern,” said Bayern sporting director Max Eberl.
Upamecano transferred to Bayern from another German club, Lepizig, in 2021, where he helped them win two Bundesliga titles and two German Super Cups.
Davies, who joined the German powerhouse from MLS club Vancouver in 2019, bagged 13 trophies with Bayern Munich, including one Champions League and five Bundesliga titles.
