Bautista Agut ends Murray’s heroic run at Australian Open

ANKARA

Bautista Agut on Saturday ended Andy Murray’s heroic run at the 2023 Australian Open.

The Spaniard beat the British veteran 6-1, 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-4 in round 3 at Margaret Court Arena.

“Always playing Andy at a Grand Slam is very tough. He knows the game very well, he knows very well how to play a Grand Slam match,” said Agut, “I’m very happy with how I held the nerves and tension. I’m very happy with the win.”

Three-times Grand Slam champion Murray, who made a heroic run until round 3 despite suffering from a serious hip injury, had lost to Agut in the 2019 Australian Open in what he feared would be the final match of his career.

“Lots of mixed emotions. I feel like I gave everything that I had to this event. So, I’m proud of that,” Murray said.

“I’m also disappointed because I put loads of work into the beginning of this year and was playing well enough to have a really good run, have a deep run,” he added.

Agut will tackle US player Tommy Paul in the 4th round.
