Barcelona beat Real Betis on penalties in Spanish Super Cup semifinal

ANKARA 

Barcelona beat Real Betis 2-2 (4-2) on penalties in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal round Thursday.

Barca’s Polish striker Robert Lewandowski drew first blood in the 40th minute at King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Betis’ French midfielder Nabil Fekir leveled the score in the 77th minute and regular time ended 1-1.

Ansu Fati brought hope to Barcelona fans in the 93rd minute, but Loren Moron of Betis equalized the score once more in the 101st minute and extra time ended 2-2.

Betis Mexican midfielder Andres Guardado was sent off with a second yellow card in the 118th minute.

Barcelona grabbed a hard-fought victory with 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

Barca will take on arch rivals Real Madrid in the final on Sunday.
