Azerbaijan and Türkiye are conducting feasibility studies on a possible renewable energy corridor spanning both countries, according to Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan’s energy minister.
Both countries are looking at developing cooperation in many areas, including renewable energy and energy efficiency, Shahbazov told Anadolu on the sidelines of the WindEnergy Hamburg conference.
‘With the project, we ultimately want to build an energy corridor from the Caspian Sea to Türkiye, including the Zangezur Corridor,’ the Azerbaijani minister said.
Wind and solar energy will be the main focus in the renewable energy corridor, Shahbazov said, adding that they also want to incorporate hydrogen into the project.
Azerbaijan also plans to build a 1 gigawatt renewable energy-based production facility in Nakhchivan and bring it to the Turkish market.
Both countries also have cooperation in the field of oil and gas, Shahbazov said.
Emphasizing that the energy sector is an important area of cooperation for Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Shahbazov added that the two countries contribute to the energy security of the region and Europe.
Oil and natural gas infrastructure investments such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Natural Gas Pipeline and Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) add to the regional supply security, he said.
Posting on X, Shahbazov also said they are working on production and export projects that will ensure the regional leadership of Azerbaijan in renewable energy supply.
The country plans to export more than 70% of green energy capacities by 2030 and create Caspian-Black Sea-Europe, Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe and Azerbaijan-Central Asia-Europe green energy corridors, he added on X.
