ANKARA

Co-hosts Australia hammered Canada 4-0 in a Monday FIFA Women’s World Cup match to qualify for the last 16 as the Group B winners, and second-placed Nigeria joined them in the knockout phase.

Australian midfielder Hayley Raso scored twice, and her teammate Mary Fowler added one in the second half before captain Steph Catley scored an injury time penalty for Matildas in Melbourne.

Australia collected six points in three matches to secure a top place in the group.

Called the Super Falcons, Nigeria drew with Ireland 0-0 to seal a berth in the last 16.

The African team racked up five points to complete Group B as runners-up.

Third-placed Canada, who had four points, were eliminated alongside Ireland.

The World Cup will run through Aug. 20.
