Atalanta hammered Salernitana 8-2 in the Italian Serie A week 18 goal glut on Sunday.
Ivorian winger Jeremie Boga got an early opener for Atalanta in the 5th minute at Gewiss Stadium.
Just five minutes later, Salernitana’s Senegalese attacker Boulaye Dia responded in kind and leveled the score.
Ademola Lookman brought the lead to the hosts again with a VAR-given penalty kick, despite veteran Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa’s attempt to save, in the 20th minute.
Just three minutes later, Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini made it 3-1, then, in the 38th minute, Teun Koopmeiners scored another one for Atalanta, netting the returned ball from a penalty save by goalie Ochoa.
Atalanta’s Rasmus Højlund put another one into the Salernitana net in the 41st and the first half ended with six goals.
Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman scored for Atalanta in the 54th minute.
Just two minutes later, Hans Nicolussi took one back for Salernitana, but in the 61st minute, Ederson netted for Atalanta once more.
Atalanta’s Nadir Zortea scored the final goal of the match in the 85th minute. The referee blew the final whistle while the scoreboard showed 8-2.
Atalanta lay at the 6th spot with 34 points, while Salernitana placed 16th with 18 points in the Serie A standings.
