ANKARA
Declan Rice scored a very late winner for English leaders Arsenal as the Gunners were handed a dramatic 4-3 victory against Luton in a Tuesday away match.
Arsenal, who have 36 points now, went five points clear at the top of the English Premier League. Second-place Liverpool are set to visit Sheffield United on Wednesday.
Gabriel Martinelli, an Arsenal forward, scored the opener at Luton in the 20th minute. Five minutes later, Gabriel Osho leveled for the home team.
Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus scored a header near the end of the first half as the Gunners were on a 2-1 lead.
Four minutes after the start of the second half, Luton scored an equalizer again. Elijah Adebayo headed after a corner.
Luton came back in the 57th minute as midfielder Ross Barkley fired an effort underneath Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. But a few minutes later, the Gunners’ German star Kai Havertz scored in close range to make it 3-3.
Underdogs Luton were close to taking a point from Arsenal, but the London club’s English midfielder Rice scored the winner via a header in the 97th minute after Martin Odegaard’s cross, a big disappointment for Luton.
Arsenal won the match 4-3.
In addition to the Sheffield Utd vs. Liverpool match, Wednesday will see matches between Manchester United and Chelsea and Aston Villa and Manchester City.
Defending champions Manchester City are third with 30 points. Aston Villa are among the Premier League’s best four teams as they have collected 29 points so far.
