ANKARA

Argentina beat Canada 2-0 to reach the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America final on Tuesday.

Julian Alvarez scored the opener for Argentina in a one-on-one situation against Canada goalie Maxime Crepeau in the 22nd minute at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, 37, doubled the lead in the 51st minute.

Messi was onside to deflect an effort from Argentine teammate Enzo Fernandez as he beat Crepeau.

Securing a semifinal win over Canada, Argentina, the 2021 champions, will play against either Colombia or Uruguay in Sunday’s final in Miami, Florida.

Colombia will meet Uruguay in a Wednesday semifinal match in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Canada, which lost the semifinal, will play a third-place playoff on Saturday.
