Anadolu Agency recorded aerial footage Tuesday of refrigerated trucks that reportedly contained hundreds of bodies of COVID-19 victims in New York City.
Nearly 650 bodies stored in white freezer trucks at a port in Brooklyn are said to be of those who died in the spring, according to the Wall Street Journal.
A disaster morgue was set up in April on the 39th Street Pier in Sunset Park, said the report, citing the city’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
According to the office, families of victims cannot be reached or they cannot afford a proper burial service.
The office told the newspaper that the city was having trouble tracking down relatives for about 230 people who died from the coronavirus.
Before COVID-19, unclaimed bodies would have been buried on Hart Island, in the Long Island Sound near the Bronx.
The city has more than 24,200 people who have died from the virus.
