Portugal, already qualified for EURO 2024, beat Bosnia Herzegovina 5-0 in a Monday in Group J qualifier match to win all their eight matches in this stage.
Portugal’s 38-year-old forward Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, including a penalty kick at Bosnia’s Zenica.
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes fired in the box to make it 3-0 in the 25th minute. Seven minutes later, Portugal’s Joao Cancelo scored a classy goal near the penalty arc.
Visitors made it 5-0 minutes before the halftime break as Joao Felix finished in the area.
Portugal dominated Group J with 24 points in eight matches and they scored 32 goals but conceded two. Their nearest opponents, Slovakia, have 16 points.
Slovakia beat Luxembourg 1-0 in an away match. The fifth-place Bosnian team has nine points in the group.
Austria qualify for EURO 2024
Austria qualified for the EURO 2024 finals after they won at Azerbaijan 1-0 in a Group F match.
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marcel Sabitzer scored the winner for Austria from the penalty spot in the 48th minute in Baku.
Austria’s Guido Burgstaller was sent off for a foul near the end of the match. He was already booked.
Second-place Austria boosted their points to 16 in the group to book their place at the EURO 2024, to be held in Germany next summer.
Austria, who were the 2008 co-hosts, last played in the EURO 2020. Their EURO best was Round of 16 in 2020.
Group leaders Belgium, who also have 16 points, have already qualified for the finals.
Already eliminated, Azerbaijan have only 4 points to be in lower ranks in the group.
Belgium vs. Sweden match abandoned for security reasons
A Group F match between Belgium and Sweden at Brussels’ King Baudouin Stadium was abandoned for a terrorist attack.
“Following a suspected terrorist attack in Brussels this evening, it has been decided, after consultation with the two teams and the local police authorities, that the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden is abandoned. Further communication will be made in due course,” UEFA said on X.
The match has been suspended at halftime for security reasons, and then abandoned.
The game was 1-1 after Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku scored from a penalty.
King Baudouin Stadium in the Heysel area of Brussels, where the match took place, is located around 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) from the site of the attack, highlighting the proximity of the incident to a major sports venue.
A gunman has killed at least two Swedish nationals in Brussels, local media reported late Monday.
