June 3, 2023 5:43 pmAlparslan Bayraktar has become Türkiye’s new Minister of Energy and Natural Resources as part of the new cabinet of Türkiye’s Presidential System announced on Saturday by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
He completed his undergraduate education at Istanbul Technical University’s Mechanical Engineering Department and received his master’s degrees in economic law from Bilkent University Faculty of Law and in international relations from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Bayraktar obtained his PhD in Energy Economics and Policy at the Middle East Technical University, Department of Earth System Sciences.
He served as Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry and General Director of Foreign Relations in the European Union between 2016 and 2018, and served as a board member at the Energy Market Regulatory Authority between 2010 and 2016.
Before his public duties, he worked in the private sector, both in Türkiye and abroad. He also worked in the field of energy management and regulations within international organizations, served as President of the Energy Regulators Confederation (ICER) and the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA).
He succeeds Fatih Donmez who has held the position since July 9, 2018.
