Ajax appoint Jon van’t Schip as interim manager

ISTANBUL

Ajax officially announced on Monday the appointment of John van’t Schip as the interim head coach, a role he will hold until June 30, 2025.

In their statement, Ajax revealed that Van’t Schip, 59, and the Dutch club reached an agreement for him to assume a role in technical management starting July 1, 2024.

“I’m very happy that the deal is done and I’m eager to start at the club where it once all began for me,” Van’t Schip said in a statement. “The conversations with all people involved resulted in a great feeling for me. Ajax needs to find the way up again and I’m happy to help in that matter.”

Van’t Schip previously served as a manager for Twente, Melbourne Heart, Chivas, Melbourne City, PEC Zwolle, and the Greek national team.

Last week, Ajax parted ways with Maurice Steijn after a poor run of results as they collected five points in eight matches so far.

Meanwhile, Van’t Schip made appearances in the first team of Ajax from 1981 until 1992.
