AC Milan sacked their Portuguese head coach Paulo Fonseca on Monday after they were held to a 1-1 draw with Roma in a Sunday Italian league match.
“AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved from his duties as Head Coach of the Men’s First Team. The Club extends its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours,” the club said in a statement on Monday.
The 51-year-old was dismissed just after six months of taking charge in June.
Following the Roma draw at home, eighth-place Milan have 27 points, 14 points behind Italian Serie A’s joint-leaders Atalanta and Napoli.
In the 36-team UEFA Champions League table, Milan are ranked 12th with 12 points after winning four of their six matches.
Fonseca has also managed Portugal’s Porto and Braga, Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk, Italy’s Roma, and French club Lille.
