GREATER LONDON
King Charles quoted a hadith, a saying of the Prophet Muhammad, in Arabic during a state banquet for Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq at Windsor Castle.
Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, who is on a three-day state visit to the UK, the first such visit in 44 years, was welcomed by King Charles and Queen Camilla on Tuesday.
Later in the evening, the king and queen hosted a state banquet for the sultan at Windsor Castle, where the British monarch quoted the Prophet Muhammad while praising the people of Oman, saying: “If you were to come to the people of Oman, they would have neither reviled you nor beaten you.”
A clip of Charles reciting the hadith in Arabic has since gone viral on social media.
During his speech, Charles highlighted the long partnership between the UK and Oman and the importance of Oman’s efforts at bridge-building in a time of conflict.
“There can be few happier symbols of success than a living relationship being passed from one generation to the next,” he added.
