ISTANBUL
Russia’s presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev has held talks with US envoys in New York, less than a month after talks they held in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to media reports.
Citing sources with direct knowledge, CNN reported that Dmitriev met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner on Thursday, seeking to continue dialogue on cooperation between Moscow and Washington, as well as peacemaking efforts around the ongoing Ukraine war.
On Friday, Russian state news agency RIA also wrote that Dmitriev is in New York, reporting that he was spotted outside a Manhattan hotel, where he arrived in a motorcade of special forces and police vehicles.
Neither Russia nor the US has officially confirmed the visit or the meeting.
The reported talks come as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Witkoff and Kushner had visited the Russian capital earlier this month, where they held “substantive, constructive, exceptionally frank” talks with Putin that lasted over three hours, according to the Kremlin.
