Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Chile have applied to jointly host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) announced on Tuesday.
CONMEBOL announced their support for the four countries’ candidacy to host the “Centennial World Cup,” stressing that Uruguay was the first to host the tournament in 1930.
Alejandro Dominguez, head of the confederation, said: “One hundred years will be achieved only once. And it has to come back home.”
Spain and Portugal have previously announced their candidacy to co-host the tournament in 2030.
The countries to host in 2030 FIFA World Cup are expected to be announced in 2024.
