TotalEnergies sells 170 MW European distributed solar portfolio to focus utility-scale focus

by Anadolu Agency

TotalEnergies said Thursday it has completed the sale of its distributed solar assets across seven European countries as it shifts its renewable energy strategy toward large utility-scale solar and wind projects.

The French energy major said in a statement it divested around 170 megawatts of distributed solar assets, consisting mainly of rooftop installations in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, the UK and Luxembourg, to Amarenco and AMPYR Distributed Energy.

The move reflects TotalEnergies’ strategy of focusing on utility-scale renewable projects, where larger developments offer stronger economies of scale than distributed generation projects, which are generally smaller than 3 MW.

Amarenco and AMPYR Distributed Energy will continue operating the assets, ensuring uninterrupted service for existing customers, the company said.

TotalEnergies said the transaction will not affect the pace of its renewable energy expansion. Over the past 12 months, it added 8 GW of gross renewable capacity, bringing its global portfolio to 35 GW at the end of March 2026.

The company said it aims to maintain this annual pace through to 2030 to reach more than 75 GW.
