Monaco were held to a 2-2 draw at Nantes in a French Ligue 1 match Friday, missing a chance to level on points with second-place Olympique Marseille in the league’s standings.

French forward Matthis Abline gave hosts Nantes an early lead.

Right-back Kelvin Amian scored for Nantes to double the gap in the 47th minute.

Monaco’s Swiss forward Breel Embolo and Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu scored within seven minutes in the second half as the visitors leveled at Nantes’ Stade de la Beaujoire.

In the 81st minute, Embolo had a close-range effort but it was cleared off the line by Nantes.

After Monaco wasted a chance, Nantes winger Moses Simon’s shot hit the crossbar.

Adi Hutter’s Monaco are on 31 points in 17 matches as they were unable to level on points with Olympique Marseille in the Ligue 1 standings.

Having 33 points, Marseille will visit Rennes on Saturday.

Paris Saint-Germain, which are the French leaders with 40 points, will host underdogs Saint-Etienne at the Parc des Princes Stadium on Sunday.
