John Swinney is set to become Scotland’s next first minister, after he was confirmed the Scottish National Party’s (SNP) new leader on Monday.
Swinney, a former deputy first minister of Scotland, emerged as the sole contender in the leadership race for a new first minister.
“I am deeply honoured to have been elected as Leader of @theSNP. I will give all that I have to serve my Party and my Country,” he wrote on X.
The 60-year-old politician is a member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire North.
Last Monday, Humza Yousaf resigned as Scotland’s first minister, saying he was not willing to trade his principles to win a no-confidence vote.
