The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced Tuesday that they have upheld a decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to remove the International Boxing Association (IBA) from the Olympic family.
“The IBA had not increased its financial transparency and sustainability including through diversification of revenues,” CAS said in a statement.
“The IBA had not changed its process relating to referees and judges to ensure its integrity, including a monitoring period for IBA’s own competitions ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024,” it added.
CAS also noted that the International Boxing Association “had not ensured the full and effective implementation of all the measures” proposed by the Governance Reform Group established by the Olympic Committee, including a change of culture.
Boxing, which maintains its Olympic sport status at the 2024 Paris Summer Games, is organized by the IOC instead of the IBA, as in the Tokyo 2020 Games.
