QatarEnergy inked a landmark 15-year agreement with Excelerate Energy for the supply of up to 1 million tons per annum (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bangladesh, the company said in a statement on Monday.
Effective January 2026, the deal marks a pivotal step in meeting Bangladesh’s growing energy demand.
Under the deal, Excelerate Energy will initially purchase 0.85 MTPA of LNG in 2026 and 2027, scaling up to 1 MTPA from 2028 until the conclusion of the agreement in 2040.
The LNG will be delivered to floating storage and regasification units in Bangladesh.
‘This new agreement will further strengthen our relationship with Excelerate and support the energy requirements of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in its stride towards greater economic development,’ Qatari Energy Minister and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, was quoted as saying in the statement.
Highlighting Qatar’s role in energizing South Asia’s economy, the move reinforces Qatar’s position as the largest LNG supplier to Bangladesh.
