Detroit Pistons became the NBA’s first team to lose 27 straight games in a season after suffering a 118-112 defeat to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.
“I could sit here and say I don’t think about it. “I mean, it’s in my face,” Detroit coach Monty Williams said in a post-game press conference.
“I’ve been around a lot of teams and not many teams have that type of resilience. Our guys don’t want to be a part of any losing streak, whatever, but every day they come back with focus and drive and grit trying to win a game,” he added.
The previous record of 26 straight defeats was held by the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers.
The Brooklyn Nets beat the Detroit Pistons on Saturday to deliver them their 26th consecutive loss to match the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers for the most losses in a row in a season.
Nic Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe each made a double-double, each posting 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side.
A total of three Brooklyn players finished with double-digit points. Cameron Johnson scored 24 points, Mikal Bridges produced 21 and Cam Thomas finished with 17 points.
Detroit guard Cade Cunningham produced 41 points, nine rebounds, and five assists but his effort was not enough to avoid a defeat.
Jalen Duren made a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds while Bojan Bogdanovic scored 23 points and Alec Burks finished with 15 points for the Pistons.
