Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara has removed the prime minister and dissolved the government, a presidential decree announced on Friday.

“Patrick Achi is no longer prime minister as of this Friday, October 6,” according to a decree read out on Radio et Television Ivoirienne, the national television of the West African country.

Achi and the outgoing government will remain in charge temporarily until a new premier is appointed and a new government is established, Abdourahlane Cisse, secretary general of the presidency, told reporters.

Ouattara expressed “his gratitude for their commitment to the service of the nation in recent years,” Cisse said.

Achi has been the prime minister of Ivory Coast since March 2021, and was reappointed in April 2022.
