Germany appointed Julian Nagelsmann as their new manager following Hansi Flick’s sacking, the German Football Federation (DFB) confirmed on Friday.

“We’re delighted to confirm that Julian will lead the national team as Head Coach for next summer’s UEFA European Championship in Germany,” the DFB said in a statement.

The federation said Sandro Wagner and Benjamin Gluc would take over as assistant managers, while Nagelsmann’s contract would run until July 31, 2024.

“We have a European Championship in our own country. That’s something special – something that happens every few decades,” Nagelsmann said after the signing ceremony. “I subordinate everything to the fact of having a great tournament in a great country.”

Nagelsmann led Bayern Munich to win a Bundesliga title and two German Super Cup trophies.

The 36-year-old has previously managed Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich.

The German football federation parted ways with Flick after poor results in early September.

Meanwhile, Flick, 58, became the first manager to be sacked in the history of the German men’s national team.
