ANKARA
Türkiye were eliminated from the 2023 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket on Sunday over a 80-66 loss to Slovakia.
The Turkish women have a 1-2 win/loss record to end Group D in last place.
Slovakian forward Terezia Palenikova added 20 points to be the top scorer in the game held in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.
Ivana Jakubcova racked up 15 points, and Slovakian pair Barbora Wrzesinski and Nikola Dudasova had 13 points each.
Sevgi Uzun and Teaira McCowan scored 16 points each to lead Türkiye.
Turkish guard Derin Erdogan added 11 points.
The win over Türkiye put Slovakia into third place in the group, which means they will play a qualification game for the quarterfinals with Germany on Tuesday.
Either Slovakia or Germany will face Spain in the last eight of the tournament.
Four group winners — Spain, Belgium, France and Hungary — directly qualified for the quarterfinals and are each waiting for their opponents.
The qualification games will be held on Monday and Tuesday in Ljubljana and Tel Aviv, Israel.
The 2023 Women’s EuroBasket will run through Sunday, June 25.
