WASHINGTON

US President Joe Biden will host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a state visit June 22, the White House said Wednesday.

Spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said the visit “will affirm the deep and close partnership between the United States and India and the warm bonds of family and friendship that link Americans and Indians together.”

“The visit will strengthen our two countries’ shared commitment to a free, open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific and our shared resolve to elevate our strategic technology partnership, including in defense, clean energy, and space,” she said.

The two leaders will also discuss educational exchanges and people-to-people ties, as well as “common challenges” from climate change, to workforce development and health security, according to the White House.

The visit will be the first by Modi to the Biden administration while he will be the third world leader to be invited to the White House on a state visit, following French President Emmanuel Macron in December and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in April.
