Paris Saint-Germain’s star forward Kylian Mbappe was named the new France captain by head coach Didier Deschamps, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Tuesday.
Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann became the vice captain of the team, the federation said in a statement.
Former France captain Hugo Lloris, who is France’s most-capped player with 145 appearances, 121 of which as team captain, announced his retirement from international football in January.
Mbappe, 24, netted 36 goals in 66 appearances for France, while 32-year-old Griezmann scored 42 goals in 117 caps for the national team.
Both players bagged 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2021 UEFA Nations League title with the Blues.
