Unsteady Barcelona to take on already-qualified Bayern Munich in Champions League

Barcelona have a glimmer of hope for the UEFA Champions League’s last 16 phase as the Spanish club will host already-qualified Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich won all their Group C matches to collect 12 points, while Italy’s Inter Milan are ranked second with seven points.

Barcelona have four points before the Matchday 5 as they last drew with Inter 3-3 at home on Oct. 12.

The Spanish club will step on the pitch in a “must-win match” this evening. The critical clash at the Spotify Camp Nou will begin at 1900 GMT.

Inter, meanwhile, will play against Czech underdogs Viktoria Plzen in Milan.

Viktoria Plzen have lost all their four matches this season to bottom Group C.

Who needs what?

Leaders Bayern Munich have already reserved a place in the Champions League Round of 16, but they want to win it before Matchday 6.

If Bayern Munich beat Barcelona, the Germans will win Group C. If Inter fail to beat Viktoria Plzen, Bayern will be confirmed group winners in this case too.

But if Inter win, the Italian club will be through to the last 16.

Barcelona will not march to the next stage if the Spanish club lose against Bayern Munich.

Barca will secure a Europa League berth if Inter win or both matches are drawn.

Viktoria Plzen cannot progress in the Champions League, but can finish third and reach the second-tier Europa League, which will also be quite miraculous.

The Czech team will respectively play against Inter in Milan, and Barcelona in Plzen to end this stage.

Wednesday’s fixtures
