2 police detained in France for shooting driver

ANKARA

Two police officers who shot and killed a driver for not complying with a warning in Paris were detained, according to media reports Saturday.

Police wanted to stop the vehicle they saw as suspicious during a security check in the 12th district of the capital late Friday. The vehicle had two passengers and the driver.

When the driver did not comply with the warning and continued, police opened fire. The driver was killed and the two passengers fled and disappeared.

The officers were detained. Two separate investigations were opened.

No official statement has been made regarding the identity and origin of the driver.

Twelve drivers have died since January from police fire because they did not comply with stop warnings.
