19-year-old dies after being stabbed in London

LONDON

A young man age 19 was fatally stabbed in southeast London, triggering a murder investigation, police said Sunday.

Detectives launched the investigation after the young man’s death in Peckham Rye, southeastern London, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Police responded to reports of an assault on Rye Lane, near the junction of Heaton Road, at 7.09 pm local time (1909GMT) on Saturday.

The young man was treated at the scene before being transferred to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said the police.

“No arrests have been made at this early stage,” said the statement.

“No one should lose their life because of knife crime,” Police Superintendent Gabriel Cameron said in the statement, urging anyone with information about the stabbing to contact police.
