ERZURUM, TURKEY

At least 14 suspected members of the Daesh terror group, also known as ISIS, have been arrested in anti-terror operations across Turkey, a security source said on Friday.

Anti-terror police in the eastern province of Erzurum launched an operation against the financial network and members of Daesh as part of an investigation conducted by the local chief prosecutor.

The suspects, accused of providing funds to the terror group and managing the organization’s money transactions, were arrested in simultaneous operations across seven provinces throughout the country.

A pistol, 22 rounds, digital materials and organizational documents were seized during the search operations.

In 2013, Turkey became one of the first countries to declare Daesh a terrorist group.

The country has since been attacked by the terror group multiple times, with over 300 people killed and hundreds more injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks and four armed assaults.

In response, Turkey launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
